Casual Friday outfits.
The idea of casual Friday is different in every industry. If you work in corporate, it might be the one day a week you get to wear jeans (hooray denim!). If you’re a creative, like me, every day might be pretty low-key sans the occasional client meeting. (Or if you’re a freelancer like past me, it might be leggings and slippers all day errday. No judgement.)
I have a lot of feelings about dressing for the job you want, not the job you have. Which is why I felt pretty validated when I watched a clip of Shark Tank host Barbara Corcoran telling Inc. her two things that matter most in business: confidence and the way you look.
And the two go hand in hand. In her explanation, “Confidence is nothing more than a result of over-preparation.” While Barbara is talking about the do-your-homework kind of over-preparation, confidence can certainly be derived from looking the part, as well.
Yeah, clothes influence the way we perform. It’s science, people.
Find one less-than-casual Friday piece
I find that the easiest way to take your normal weekday wear to casual without showing up in your pajamas is to pick one less-than-casual piece, like your go-to blazer, cropped slacks or heels, and then dress it down.
Take this oversized blazer (which is now 70% off—you’re welcome). I love the scarf, T-shirt, jeans and booties alone, but the blazer just brings back in some sophistication to round it out.
